Terms of Endearment

by Noel F. Zamora
for my parents

Let newlyweds nibble kisses for breakfast,
young lovers lunch on their lust.

We will have none of that.

We prefer quiet kitchen-counter dinners
of your homemade spaghetti and my calame,
relishing the calm of the nest
we built together these thirty years.

This is home: our eyes meeting
between sips of water.
For a moment I long for this
to be my eternal everyday: when
a glance takes the place of names.
