Guide Them, Guard Them, Gladden Them

Blessing I for the Morehead State University Eagles Football Team

P: Our help is in the name of the Lord.
R: Who made Heaven and earth (Ps. 124:8).

Let us pray.

Lord of all seasons,
as we send these Men of Morehead
to battle with the Dukes of James Madison in Harrisonburg, Virginia,
we ask that You protect them from all harm on the road
and keep them safe from any injury on the field.
You who are Almighty,
grant, in this their first game of the season,
spring to their feet,
clarity to their sight and mind,
strength to their body and soul.

You are the fountain of every virtue.
Instill in these men the virtues
of faith in Your providence and in each other,
hope in Your plan of salvation and in the game plan against the Dukes,
and charity on the field and off the field towards their foes and their fans.
Let these Men of Morehead,
the Eagles of our school,
show by their manner, their play, and their drive,
that they are men of character,
that they are worthy to represent our community,
that there is a reason why we hail them as our champions.

O God, who bless us with Your goodness in every season,
guide them in their journey,
guard them in their game, and
gladden them with a victory.
May Your grace always inspire gratitude in their hearts
and their game give glory to Your Name.

Through our Lord Jesus Christ, Your Son,
who lives and reigns with You in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, forever and ever. Amen.

P: The Lord be with you.
R: And with your spirit.

P: May Almighty God bless you, the Father, + and the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
R: Amen.

P: Go in peace.
R: Thanks be to God.
